Panthers Hope to Qualify for State Meet

Several Sac City track and field athletes will compete in the NorCal regional finals on Friday at American River College with a berth at the state meet next week at Cuesta College on the line.

On the men’s side, after preliminaries, Henry Sharoyan is the lead qualifier in the shot put with a throw of 50-feet, 10 ¼ inches. The men’s 4 x 100 relay team of Darius Blackwell, David Mewborn, Daniel Mewborn and Armadno Martinez is seeded fourth with a prelim time of 42.14 seconds.

On the women’s side, Lavinaa Akauola qualified in second place in the shot put at 42-10 ¾. Lavina is also second in the women’s discus at 136-5. Monae Newton is seeded fourth in the discus. Detrice Adams is seeded fifth in the triple jump at 34-5 ¾. Amanda Rodriguez qualified second in the 1500 meters (5 minutes, 1.37 seconds) and fourth in the 800 meters (2:19.18).

Both 4 x 400 relay teams are seeded fourth. The women’s group of Jasmine Banguis, Amanda Rodriguez, Mariah Burke, and Alexis Miller qualified in 4:02.51. The men (Juave Johnson, Armando Martinez, Daniel and David Mewborn) qualified in 3:19.61.
