With about 50 people present, Interim President Michael Poindexter, Los Rios Chancellor Brian King and UC Davis Interim Chancellor Ralph Hexter helped break ground on the second building to be constructed at the Davis Center.
The $13.48 million construction project will take 16 months to complete, just in time for classes to begin in January 2018. The building will mirror the existing Davis Center building with 15,000 square feet of classrooms, labs and offices. The new building will be dedicated to more science opportunities.
Others in attendance included Los Rios Board Members Ruth Scribner and Pamela Haynes, Student Trustee (and SCC student) Marianna Sousa, and California State Senator Lois Wolk.
Interim Vice President for Instruction, Don Palm, the longtime Davis Center Dean, hosted the ceremony.
