The following services are available for our distance education students:
Library Catalog (LOIS)
Access the catalog to look for books and other materials owned by the Los Rios libraries. Currently registered students, staff, and faculty may have books delivered to any Los Rios location, place holds on books currently checked out (except for Reserve books), and renew the books they have checked out (one time only online). The library catalog also provides access to over 20,000 ebooks.
Accessing Databases Remotely
All subscription databases may be accessed from off-campus. Users will be prompted to log in with their Los Rios identification number and password.
Electronic Reserves
Some professors provide certain course materials electronically via the library catalog. To check for these materials, search for your course name and professor's last name in the library catalog. If any of the items show the phrase "SCC E-Reserves Online" in the Location field, click the title. When you click a link on the next screen, you will be asked to log in using your Los Rios user ID and password before the document opens. Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view items in PDF format. For more information, refer to the FAQs.
Reference Services
The Library provides reference via telephone, email, live chat and text message. See the Ask A Librarian page.
Online Courses
The library offers the following classes online:
- LIBR 318, Library Research and Information Literacy (see information in the course catalog (pdf file).
- Library Information Technology Program
TV Courses
Tapes from televised courses are available in the LRC. They can be viewed on the premises, or rented out when available. More information is available from the Distance Education website.
