Fall Flex 2010
Making the Grade: It's up to us!
August 18, 2010 - August 20, 2010
As educators, we are privileged to have an opportunity to assist students cultivate knowledge, skills, attributes and abilities to become conscious masters of their own growth and development. We work to create educational environments that release capacities, inspire confidence, promote competencies and develop analytical abilities. We strive to help our students achieve success in their education, in their careers, and as contributing members of society. In essence, we are responsible for providing our students with the opportunity to acquire the necessary skills to make the grade.
The entire Sacramento City College community has an essential role to play in the educational development of our students. Because we all play this critical role, we as educators cannot fear assuming the role of the student. Learning from our students and from each other will teach us innovative classroom practices and help us forge good teaching relationships. We become willing to move beyond the role of content experts and become collaborators in learning -- seeking new knowledge alongside students and colleagues and modeling positive habits of work and mind. As educators who also want to "make the grade," we meticulously prepare for classes and/or service delivery and take a great deal of pride in our work. Yes, we are all in this together, working to create a learning community that celebrates diversity, nurtures personal growth, and inspires academic and economic leadership for all.
