2012-2013 SCC Financial Aid Disbursement, Recalculation and Priority Dates

Fall 2012

June 1

File completion for Fall

To ensure students are awarded the first week of the semester - or the first week of attendance of classes -, students must turn in all required documents and meet all eligibility standards.

July 18

Enrollment cut off for the first Fall payment

In addition to completing your file by the "File Completion for Fall" deadline, students must be enrolled in their coursework that starts at the beginning of the term to receive aid the first week of the semester. Students who add courses after this deadline may not receive payment for the courses added on the first week of classes. Students will not receive grants until the courses have started.

First Disbursement

The first disbursement for all students enrolled in more than six units will be based on full-time status. Those students will receive ½ of a full time award. Only full time and three-quarter time students will receive two disbursements per semester. Half-time and Less than Half-time students will receive one disbursement.

***The above statement may not apply to high EFC students.

After the first disbursement, as files are completed, subsequent disbursements will be made every week.

Sep 2

Cal Grant CC Deadline

Students who want to be considered for a Cal Grant from the California Student Aid Commission for Community College students only, must complete a FAFSA, GPA verification and be enrolled at a community college by this date.

Oct 12

Fall Consortium request

If you are attending another college within the Los Rios Community College District and want your financial aid office to consider the units for payment, you must submit a request by this date.

Second Disbursement

The first disbursement for all students enrolled in more than six units will be based on full-time status. Those students will receive ½ of a full time award. (Fall Award Eligibility date)

The amount of your Fall financial aid eligibility will be based on the units you are enrolled in on this date. Students who add classes after this date will not receive aid for the late added classes. Students who received funding prior to this date and dropped classes you may be required to repay based on their current enrollment on this date, NO adjustments will be made after this date.

Appeal for Dependency Override

Federal legislation bases financial aid eligibility on the assumption that students and their parents are primarily responsible for paying their educational costs. By law you are a dependent student for federal financial aid purposes if the directions on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) instruct you to provide parent’s information. This will apply to situations where the student’s physical or emotional welfare is jeopardized by contact with the parents. If you feel your circumstances warrant review for independent status, submit this appeal by this date.

Appeal for Special Circumstances

Your financial aid eligibility was initially determined based on the information you reported on your FAFSA regarding your prior year income. However, if you have experienced changes that have created extraordinary circumstances, this process will enable you to request a review of your situation. Our review may result in a change to your EFC and increased eligibility. Any changes to your award will be based on funding available at the time of review, and will be retroactive to the beginning of the school year. You must submit this appeal by this date.

Loan request for Fall

Students who wish to receive a loan must submit their request by this date. Requests received after this date will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Failure to meet the deadline may result in a denial of a loan.

Nov 20

Last day to Appeal Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Eligibility

Students who wish to submit a Financial Appeal due to lack of Satisfactory Academic Progress must turn in their request by this date. Requests received after this date will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Failure to meet deadline may result in denial of the Appeal

Dec 20

End of term file completion

For students seeking aid for Fall, students should submit all requested documents by this date, failure to complete their file by this date may forfeit aid eligibility for this term.

Spring 2013

File completion for Spring

Priority FAFSA filing

Students may still submit a FAFSA after this date, but priority is given on a first-come-first-serve basis. Additionally, students may not be considered for Cal Grant if they file after the March 2nd deadline.

Cal Grant GPA

GPA verifications must be submitted to the California Student Aid Commission by this date for state wide consideration for a Cal Grant.

Mar 2

Priority California Dream Act Filing

Students (eligible AB540 status) may still submit a California Dream Act Application after this date, but priority is given on a first-come-first-serve basis. Additionally, students may not be considered for Cal Grant if they file after the March 2nd deadline.

Mar 8

Spring Consortium request

·         Half-time (8.5-6 units) and Less than Half-time students (Less than 6 units) receive one disbursement per semester.

Deadline to complete a 2012-2013 FAFSA

This is the last day a 2012-2013 FAFSA can be completed to be considered for Summer 2013 grants.
