Post-secondary education is defined as the educational instruction beyond high school. California has more than 2,500 educational institutions and agencies that offer education in both academic and vocational majors.

California supports three segments of higher education:

10 University of California (UC) campuses

23 California State University (CSU) campuses, and

109 California Community Colleges (CCC)

California Community Colleges
The California Community Colleges comprise a network of public colleges that offer lower division course work for transfer to universities, degree programs, and occupational/vocational training. Sacramento City College is a campus of the Los Rios Community College District, which also includes American River College, Cosumnes River College, and Folsom Lake College. The educational goals that can be attained in post-secondary education are numerous. The information listed below provides a general outline of certificate and degree requirements.

NOTE: SCC offers Certificates of Achievement and Associate Degrees only. Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral degrees are attained through four-year institutions.
