Fall Semester
Students enroll in ENGWR100 and the Puente section of Human Career Development. In the counseling class, we focus on building group cohesion and a sense of familia amongst the students. Students will meet their mentors and participate in mentor activities. Additionally, Puente students attend the annual fall student motivational conference at a northern California four-year campus. A variety of Puente social, political, and community field trips supplement the academic program.
Spring Semester
Successful Puente students continue with the same English instructor into ENGWR 300 and a second one-unit counseling class. Students continue to work with their mentors and participate in a variety of activities. In the spring, we concentrate on ensuring transfer success through fulfilling transfer requirements, meeting with university representatives, and campus tours. We conclude the year with a family gathering and celebration.
