The first step to transfer is meeting with a counselor. They will write an Educational Plan with you to determine the coursework strategy and timeline that is best for you. It is important to complete your English and math requirements as soon as possible. If you meet with your counselor regularly, you can plan ahead and complete your freshman and sophomore years at SCC in the same time it would have taken at a four-year school, and maybe sooner.
Next, choose your major. In doing this, consider what you are passionate about and where your talents lie. Be sure to meet with counselors and professors to help with these decisions.
Choose three four-year colleges or universities and visit their websites. Consider both the academic offerings of the colleges as well as their locations. If possible, speak with current students or alumni. Video tours are available for viewing in the Transfer Center.
Meet with a counselor to write a Transfer Admissions Agreement (TAA) if one is available for your transfer college or university of choice.
Visit the campuses of your three college choices and make an appointment to meet with an advisor during your visit. Have a list of prepared questions to ask. Phone calls can be made to campuses throughout the country for free from the Transfer Center.
Accurately and completely fill out the application form up to one year ahead of time. Check the college catalog for the exact filing period. Include your personal statement if required.
Follow your educational plan exactly as you have indicated on your college application. Discrepancies in declared course work must be communicated by you in writing to the university.
Welcome to the university! You've completed the steps to transfer and are now ready to finish your education. Congratulations!
