Now that you have identified your target market, what you want to say, and where you want to distribute your publication, the following guidelines are suggested to reflect a positive, tasteful, and consistent image of the college:
- Sacramento City College should be spelled out and appear in all publications. The use of "SCC" may appear subsequently in the same text once the college name is fully spelled out. Nationwide, there are other SCCs, including nearby Solano Community College. The Sacramento City Unified School District refers to itself as Sac City.
- Los Rios Community College District should appear in all publications.
- Publications should include the college seal or logo. Use of the college colors is strongly encouraged.
- Our Web address and/or individual or department E-mail addresses should be included as contacts for more information. Our Web address is www.scc.losrios.edu. E-mail addresses are, for example, smithj@scc.losrios.edu. Publications should also have contact telephone numbers for those without access to computers.
- All fliers, announcements, invitations, etc. should include date, time, location, college address, and parking and Regional Transit information when appropriate.
- Photographs of people who are clearly distinguishable require a photo release.
- Photographs should reflect the diversity of our college community.
- The campus map will be updated by the public information officer and the administrative services director as needed. An electronic copy is available in Graphic Impressions. Printed copies for distribution may be ordered through duplicating. Invitations should include a campus map.
- If you are designing a publication for the Web or one that may eventually be posted on the Web, please see our Web guidelines .
- The Non-Discrimination Policy should be included in all official college publications.
- Use of the college mission statement is strongly encouraged.
- The ADA statement should be included in any publication that invites the community to participate in services, activities and programs:
The campus is committed to assuring that Sacramento City College programs, activities and services are accessible to persons with disabilities. For more information, contact the Disability Resource Center at (916) 558-2087. - The names and titles of board members should be included in the catalog, schedule, the student guide, media guides, and special programs, such as convocation, commencement, flex, Sacramento Shakespeare Festival, etc. There are strict regulations in the Fair Political Practices Act Regulations regarding the use of board members' names and pictures in mass mailings sent at public expense. The decision to include names in these publications is based on the assumption that they are not mass mailed. Please call the public information office at ext. 2442 with questions or concerns about including names in these or other publications.
- Sacramento City College publications should not violate penal or civil law, including trademarks. Copyrighted material requires written consent for use before publishing.
- The publication author will be responsible for making sure all information is accurate and current. As updated versions are published, the campus community should be notified to discard old versions.
- Proof, proof, proof. You can't have too many people read for accuracy of information, typos, spelling, and punctuation.
- All publications should be reviewed by the public information officer.
Finally, don't forget to notify the campus that you have a new publication. If it is to be used for recruitment purposes, up to 100 copies (or possibly more) may be stored in the public information office. There, faculty, staff, and counselors will be able to access it to take to recruitment venues.
