The “Getting In” Process

If you are a first-time college student, you need to follow these steps to ensure your academic success. Use this as a checklist to help you get started!

1. Application (Required)
Untitled document

Thank you for applying to Sacramento City College!

This checklist outlines the steps you need to complete in order to enroll at SCC.

To be officially admitted to the college, you must first apply, which can be done at  http://www.losrios.edu/lrc/lrc_app.php.

If you are a new student and have never attended college, you must complete Orientation, Assessment, and Counseling in order to enroll in classes!

2. Student Portal-eServices
Untitled document

How to access your records as well as class schedules and registration information.

Log on to eServices at https://ps.losrios.edu/direct/signon.html.

Click "New User" to set up your password and follow the directions. eServices allows you to manage various college transactions including but not limited to: viewing your registration appointment date and time, registering, adding and dropping classes, paying fees, viewing grades, viewing your unofficial transcript, viewing your assessment scores, etc.

3. Financial Aid (Optional)
Untitled document

You should apply for Financial Aid before you enroll in classes.

Complete an application for a Board of Governors Fee Waiver. Qualification information and general information about other Financial Aid Programs can be found at http://www.scc.losrios.edu/financialaid

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/) which may qualify you for financial assistance for educational expenses. Visit the Registration/Financial Aid Lab located in the Business Building room 153 (Mon-Thu: 8am-6pm, Fri: 8am-4pm) for assistance completing the FAFSA.

4. Orientation (Required)

Provides a college overview.

All first-time college students need to complete an Orientation Workshop before registering for classes. Learn about campus resources, transfer opportunites, and financial services. Sign up at: http://www.scc.losrios.edu/orientationworkshop.

5. Assessment (Required)

Assessment of your skills in mathematics and English helps you achieve your goals in college by placing you into classes appropriate to your skill level. Take your assessment test at least one week before your scheduled counseling workshop or appointment and to be sure you have all of your test results available for your first semester course planning session. For more information, log on to the Assessment Center website http://www.scc.losrios.edu/assessment.xml and click Testing Scheudles on the left hand side. Please note that Assessment Center Office Hours and Testing Schedules are not the same.

6. Counseling (Required)

After completing Orientation and Assessment, you will be required to participate in a New Student Counseling Workshop (NSCW). Orientation staff will schedule you for the workshop after you finish your orientation. In the NSCW, counselors will explain the counseling services and basic information regarding the planning of your academic classes towards your education goal . A Counselor will then meet with you to make course recommendations for a one-semester education plan that fits with your educational goal(s) and your assessment results. After this initial contact with a Counselor, students are required to make an appointment during the semester with counseling to complete a full Integrated Student Educational Plan (iSEP). It is recommended that students meet with counselors each semester to ensure their iSEP remains up to date. The best time to schedule these appointments are in October, March, and July. For more information, visit http://www.scc.losrios.edu/counselingwkshop

7. Student Services and Student Access Card
Untitled document Now that you are enrolled check out the many services available to students and get your student access pass which can be used as your official college ID, Regional Transit Pass, College library Card, GoPrint Card and  Discount Card at Participating Stores.

8. Get Involved in Student Organizations

Sacramento City College offers a variety of on campus activities. Student organizations are a great way to learn more about a topic, meet other students with similar interests, develop the skills employers seek and get involved in activities that you enjoy.

College clubs and organizations may be academic, social, athletic, political, spiritual, international, or cultural. Involvement in student organizations will assist students in taking initiative, managing time effectively, and provide opportunity for a wide range of interest. Many student organizations offer valuable networking opportunities. You may meet people in the community who are doing the same work you are preparing to do. The contacts you make through these experiences can be invaluable when you start applying for jobs.

For more information visit Student Leadershop and Development and Student Associated Council (SAC) sites.
