The “Getting In” Process

If you are a first-time college student, you need to follow these steps to ensure your academic success. Use this as a checklist to help you get started!

1. Application and Admission - Getting started!
To be officially admitted to the college, you must first apply, which can be done online. You will be issued a Student ID number, which you will use many times during your journey at SCC.

2. Orientation-Getting acquainted
Orientation provides students with information on programs and services as well as help in scheduling your classes. To schedule an appointment, please review the New Student Orientation Workshop Schedule  and click on the date that best fits your schedule. Once a form is submitted you have successfully signed up for an Orienation Workshop.

3. Assessment - Getting placed!
A schedule of dates for English, English as a Second Language (ESL) or math assessment tests is available online.  Get your results at the Assessment Center, in Student Services 121.

4. Counseling/Advising - Getting guidance!
This Counseling Workshop will give you important information on how to choose classes and assist you in completing your 1st semester educational plan. All new students need to participate in this workshop before they can meet with a counselor one-on-one. You can sign-up for this workshop at the same time you schedule your orientation. Check out the New Student Counseling Workshop Schedule and then call (916) 558-2145 to schedule your workshop.

5. Financial Aid - Getting help!
Apply online at the Financial Aid Web Site or visit the Financial Aid Lab in B-153 for hand-on assistance in completing the online application. Apply as soon as possible to receive help with books, enrollment fees, transportation and more.

6. Enrollment/Registration - Getting in!
Once you receive enrollment dates and times. You can enroll in classes online, or in the Registration & Financial Aid lab or in person at Admission and Records.

7. Student Services and Student Access Card
Now that you are enrolled check out the many services available to students and get your student access pass which can be used as your official college ID, Regional Transit Pass, College library Card, GoPrint Card and  Discount Card at Participating Stores.
