A Word to the Wise
From communication briefings:
- No matter what you do, it isn't enough.
- No matter what you do, it will be misinterpreted by somebody.
- No matter how many copies you distribute, you have forgotten somebody.
- No matter how many people proofread, something is misspelled.
- Media importance is awarded to an issue in direct opposition to that given the issue by your boss.
- Never fall prey to the thought that your organization's side of an issue is understood.
- Assume a total vacuum of comprehension on the part of all parties and you shall not be disappointed.
- No matter who you know, somebody else knows somebody more important.
The Proven Maxims
- An appeal to audience self-interest is most likely to be acceptable.
- A source of information regarded as trustworthy, expert or authoritative is most likely to be believed.
- Personal contact is the most effective means of communication.
