Male Athlete of the Year: Alex Campos-Chambers

Alex Campos-Chambers capped off one of the greatest seasons in SCC wrestling history by capturing the State Championship in the 174 pound division and an overall record of 38 wins and 3 losses.  In the CCCAA State Championship meet, Alex recorded two falls in his three matches and pinned the returning State Finalist as he was voted Most Outstanding Wrestler of the State Meet.  Alex also garnered All-American honors for his efforts on the mat, but he was just as dedicated in the classroom posting a 3.77 GPA in the fall semester and was named to the CCCWCA Academic All-American Team.

Campos-Chambers helped the Panthers win back-to-back Big 8 Conference titles and was voted a 1st Team All-Big 8 Conference Selection (for the 2nd consecutive year) and was also named the Big 8 Conference Wrestler of the Year.  He set a SCC school record with 32 falls, breaking the old record (28) set back in 1970, and when combined with his 20 falls from the 2012 season, he set a new State Record with 52 falls in his junior college career.  His accomplishments this season were again recognized state-wide as he was named the CCCAA December Male Athlete of the Month.
