Thank you for taking the time to find out more about Sacramento City College athletics. As Dean and Athletic Director, I am extremely proud of the faculty-coaches, staff and, of course, the 350+ student athletes that participate on our 18 intercollegiate sport teams.
Sacramento City College has been serving the needs of students in the greater Sacramento community and beyond for 95 years. Our institution has an incredible history and tradition of academic and athletic excellence that makes us one of the premier Community Colleges in the state, if not the nation. This year marks the 90th anniversary of intercollegiate athletics on the Sacramento City College campus. The breadth and depth of the accomplishments of our alumni and those who have been touched in some way by SCC have been integral to the history of Sacramento and, along with our current students, will be integral to the future of Sacramento and the state of California.
While we have a comprehensive athletic website and newly begun Facebook pages for each of our teams, we hope to provide an avenue for all of you to receive additional information about our programs, both on and off the field of play, through the Panther Club. For example, did you know that the 10.5 million dollar renovation of our iconic Hughes Stadium, to include a new Field Turf synthetic playing surface and all-weather track, is currently on schedule to open in the Fall of 2012 in time for the start of our football and women’s soccer seasons? Did you know that three of our eight Fall sport teams finished the Fall ’11 semester with team GPA’s above 3.0? Or, of those eight teams, five teams or individuals from teams represented us in postseason competition, with two teams (Wrestling, 2nd place, and Women’s Golf, 3rd place) finishing in the top three in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) state playoffs.
If you would like to receive information about our programs and events, simply fill out the attached questionnaire.
On behalf of our coaches, staff and student athletes, we look forward to connecting with you and GO PANTHERS!
