MASKERADE 2 at the Kondos Gallery through October 30

Join us for the new show in the Kondos Gallery, MASKERADE 2,  a show of masks by more than 30 artists including some of our own art faculty and staff.

The how will run from October 2 – 30, 2014 Monday-Thursday from 12 pm – 4pm and Friday 12 pm – 3 pm.

A reception will take place Thursday, Oct 2 from 5 pm to 7 pm.

Andy Porras Presents: Much More Then Margaritas and Mariachis! September 23

Join Andy Porras – educator, activist and journalist – as he presents a historical perspective and timeline of the accomplishments of Mexican people.

The presentation will take place Tuesday, September 23 from 12 pm – 1:30 pm in the Cultural Awareness Center (CAC). For more information, please visit the CAC website.

Fall 2014 Club Day October 2

Student Leadership and Development (SLD) will be hosting the Fall 2014 Club Day event on Thursday, October 2nd from 10 am – 2 pm on the main quad.

Many of SCC’s active clubs will be participating in this event to showcase who they are, what they do, and how you may get involved.

If your student club would like to participate in this event, please complete the attached  Club Day Reservation form and submit it to the SLD office no later than Monday, September 29th.

SLD is also looking for student talent to perform during this event and time slots are filling up fast! If you are interested or know someone who may be interested in showcasing their talents please Christopher Torres at 916-558-2382.

Math Programs Beginning October 3

Beginning October 3, students are invited to participate in these programs:

Math Pump: SCC’s Math Assessment Review

  • Review before re-taking the math assessment
  • Use “MyFoundationsLab” diagnostic
  • Get personal assistance from math instructor and student tutors

This no-cost workshop will meet:

When: 10/3, 10/10, 10/17, 10/24, 10/31, 11/7, and 11/14 TIME: 1:30 pm to 3 pm. You must attend all Friday workshops; the assessment will be given on 11/14.
Where: Business Building, 103

I’ve Got to Pass this Class!

Students of Math 100 (103/104) and Math 120 (123/124) : Do you feel that some extra time with a tutor would help you be successful?

The I’ve Got to Pass this Class! program runs every Friday, October 3rd through December 5th, 10 am – 2 pm, in BUS 143, Main Campus.

We are looking for students committed to attending 2 hours every week. Join us to get tutoring help for your class, test taking tips, and more!

Sign-up by October 1st – Email your name, class that you are in, and your student id number to Viorica Petcan.

Celebration del Dieciséis September 16

In commemoration of Mexico & Central American Independence Day, the Cultural Awareness Center will sponsor a special performance by James Barrera.

Student Leadership and Development is bringing out DJ Big Al from ALifornia Entertainment to play salsa, Cumbia, and Mariachi music.

The celebration will be held from 12 pm – 1 pm on the SCC Quad.

Grab a free voter registration card and register to vote!

Test your knowledge of the Law of the Land during the Constitution trivia contest at 12 pm.
Grab a free pocket Constitution or learn more about the upcoming election. Listen to the recital of the United States Constitution. Free cake giveaway at 12 pm!

Welcome Day September 11

Join Student Leadership and Development and the  Cultural Awareness Center for a campus-wide welcome to new and returning students, held on the SCC quad.

Check out SCC programs and services, enjoy free entertainment, and partake in the lunch or evening BBQ. Carla Fleming’s Jazz Band will perform  from 5 pm to 6 pm In the quad.
