Dr. Bill Doonan, professor of archaeology at SCC, undertook the project to glean through massive piles of stuff that has been collected throughout the years and decide on 100 objects that reflect the rich history of this college. He published a book entitled “A History of Sacramento City College in 100 Objects” as part of the college’s centennial celebration. The book is available to purchase at the Kondos Gallery, the College Store and the SCC Foundation Office for $25.

Solomon is a well known local photographer, and is celebrating his 90th birthday. He has spent much of the summer taking portrait photos of famous Sacramentans and regular folks for the two gallery exhibits.

The first is called “Legends of Sacramento” and will be shown on the new Photo/Journalism Gallery on the second floor of the new Student Services Building. This will be the opening exhibit of the new space. “Legends of Sacramento” will be on display between Sept. 10 and Oct. 30.

The coordinated exhibit is called “Community” and will be presented as this academic year’s opening exhibit in the Kondos Gallery. It features the portraits of many people from throughout the college and community. “Community” will be on display Sept. 10 through Oct. 9.

A free community reception will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 10 in both locations. Come by and meet Mr. Solomon, an SCC alum from a few years back, and many of the men, women and children, he photographed.
