English as a Second Language Department

The English as a Second Language Department offers language classes at six levels, from beginning to advanced (graduation competency). We serve multilingual students, non-native speakers, long-term residents and international students who need instruction in the English language. Students who speak a language other than English at home are strongly advised to complete the Sacramento City College ESL assessment process in order to place in the appropriate level of instruction.  Students can gain certificates at the intermediate and advanced levels of proficiency.

Questions? Speak to any ESL professor on campus – we’re happy to explain the program and classes.
