Computer Procedures & Policies


  • New Employee Setup
    Please contact SCC IT Help Desk at  x2222 to request an Outlook account and installation on your desktop. Automatic access is provided by District Office upon completion of all hiring documents.
  • Non-Employee Access (NEA)
    Limited computer access to individuals affiliated with the college can be provided for limited time periods by completing the Non-Employee Access form and submitting it to the college’s Information Security Officer (Elaine Ader) for approval.  Examples of when NEA is appropriate are individuals who are going to be employed by the college but whose paperwork is not yet processed, individuals who have terminated employment with the college but are completing specific business, or individuals who are affiliated with the college but are not college employees (instructors from the extended campus Nursing program, counseling interns…)
  • Relocating computers
    In order to relocate computers due to moves, office renovations or other reasons, please complete an Information Services Work Request (ISWR) form with information about what equipment has to be moved, where it should be relocated to, the date that the move should take place, the date the equipment should be put back (if applicable), and any other relevant information.  Please provide adequate lead time to ensure that staff is available.
  • Requesting access to a Virtual Private Network
    There may be times that an individual needs to have access to his/her desktop computer or other computing resources from home.  In those cases, a request for VPN access should be requested through the supervisor.
  • Requesting access to or creation of a shared drive
    Access to the shared drive (S Drive) is done automatically on campus computers.  The S Drive contains folders that are meant to be shared between persons or departments.  If you need access to a folder on the S Drive or if you want to have a folder created for shared use, please call the Help Desk at x2222.
  • Requesting Server Support
    If you have an issue with resources provided by on-campus server systems, including, file access, printing, or web services please contact the Help Desk at x2222.  You would also use this extension if you want to discuss provisioning a new server or resource for classroom use.

The District owns and operates a variety of computer systems and related equipment intended for instructional purposes. For purposes of these policies and regulations, these systems and any part thereof shall be referred to as the Systems. The Systems are provided for the use of District students, faculty, and staff in support of the educational programs of the colleges and are to be used for such related activities only. Commercial uses of the Systems are prohibited. All students, faculty and staff are responsible for ensuring that the Systems are used in an effective, efficient, ethical, and lawful manner. 8800 ADMINISTRATIVE COMPUTER USE
8810 Purpose and Definitions
1.1 The District owns and operates a variety of computer systems and related equipment intended for administrative purposes. For purposes of these policies and regulations, these systems and any part thereof shall be referred to as the Systems. The Systems are provided for the use of District staff in support of the programs of the colleges and are to be used for such related activities only. Commercial uses of the Systems are prohibited. All staff are responsible for ensuring that the Systems are used in an effective, efficient, ethical, and lawful manner.
1.2 It is the intent of these policies and regulations to define acceptable use of the Systems. Unacceptable use is prohibited, and may be grounds for loss of computing privileges, as well as prosecution under Federal, State and local law. 8870 Security
1.1  Information security is an area of utmost concern and importance to the Los Rios Community College District. Given the rapid pace of technological change, the decentralization of computing, and the proliferation of computers, networks and users of varying capabilities, it is essential that these systems be protected from misuse and unauthorized access.
