Tutoring Services

Tutoring services are provided to support student success. SCC offers department specific tutoring and “Open” tutoring service for all academic and vocational classes.

Tutoring Lab hours are subject to change and may vary throughout the semester.


Department Specific Tutoring

Advanced Technology Design Lab

Tutoring is available in the lab for students enrolled in both Graphic Communication (GCOM) and Engineering Design Technology (EDT) courses. Hours of availability for specialized EDT tutoring vary each semester. Call us or stop by for more information.

Athletic Study Skills Lab

Business Division Open Lab

Open to Los Rios students enrolled in Business & CIS Department courses at SCC.

The Business Division Open Computer Lab offers free tutoring to Business Division students in a variety of CIS subjects and other computer-related topics on a first-come / first-served basis.

Business Student Center

Open to Los Rios students enrolled in Business Department courses at SCC.

The Business Student Center offers free drop-in tutoring to Business Division students on Accounting, Economics, and specific business courses.

The Language and Literature Computer Lab

This lab (RS 326) offers support for students conducting research and writing papers.  It both accommodates scheduled classes and offers drop-in times.  Any SCC student may use the lab during drop-in times.

The lab is usually closed on Fridays for drop-in use.

Resources available: Installed programs include only Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

Individual, Small Group and Beacon tutoring in a variety of subjects including: Anthropology, Biology, Chemistry, History, Math, Philosophy, Physics, Psychology, Sign Language, Foreign Languages, and Statistics.

Occupational Labs

Tutoring is available for vocational programs such as Dental Hygiene and Electronic Technology at various campus locations. Vocational course instructors will provide information about this tutoring to their classes.

Reading Lab

The English Reading Lab (located in RHS 329) houses ENGLB 55, a credit/no credit course with its own text and computer practice materials provided in lab. It is designed primarily to support the students in the four levels of (primarily native-speaker) Reading classes (ENGRD 10, ENGRD 11, ENGRD 110, and ENGRD 310). However, students may enroll independently in ENGLB 55, whether or not they are co-enrolled in a Reading course.

Students wanting homework help on a drop-in basis may come during “open lab.” Contact the Reading Lab for the current semester’s “open Lab” sections. The lab offers practice in all areas of reading comprehension (identifying the main idea, making inferences, etc.) and in vocabulary development. Tutors are available to provide one-on-one help to students as they do their lab practice work.
