Organ Donor to be Featured on Rose Parade Float

When 13-year-old Marina Figueroa passed away three years ago, her mother Nicole Perez donated her organs and helped save four people’s lives. It was Marina’s wish to be an organ donor.
Come New Year’s Day, Marina will be honored for her gift by being one of 60 donors chosen to have their likenesses illustrated on a Tournament of Roses Parade float.
Nicole told the heart-wrenching story to two Psychology of Death and Dying classes on Dec. 1, and urged SCC students to consent to being organ donors themselves. In addition, her story was featured on several local morning television news programs.
