High School Students Explore Arts, Media, Entertainment Careers

On February 2, 2017, 145 high school students, spent the day at SCC engaged in interactive, hands-on career exploration in three departments —Graphic Communication, Photography and Theatre Arts.

Students were exposed to a variety of real-world creative experiences. In Graphic Communication labs, students animated a falling domino run to explore rigid-body dynamics, and worked in graphic design teams to create a user experience tailored to a specific audience and context. The Photography workshop showed students how to diagram lighting for studio shots using Adobe Photoshop, while Theatre Arts inspired students to act in their break out session Shakespeare Alive: Heroes, Lovers, and Fighters Come to Life. And the tech-minded explored the art of stage lighting!

This event was a collaboration between the Capital Academies and Pathways (CAP) Sector Coach for Arts, Media and Entertainment/Digital Media (AME/DM), SCC Faculty in Graphic Communication, Photography and Theater Arts, and SCC’s CTE Transitions Coordinator.  The event was co-sponsored by the Sacramento City College Office of Instruction and the Elk Grove Unified School District.
