High School Students: Advanced Education

All high school students wishing to enroll for classes at any Sacramento City College location must complete our Advanced Education steps (below).

There will be no individual counseling appointments at the SCC Main Campus for any Advanced Education students; no exceptions will be made.

Spring 2018

Sacramento City College counseling department is now only accepting LATE START Spring 2018 Advanced Education application packets.  The deadline for full term classes starting 1/13/18 has passed.

Advanced Education Steps

The following steps are required to complete the Advanced Education Process. All steps must be completed before the semester begins.

Please include all of the following required items in your Advanced Education Application Packet. We strongly encourage you to make copies of all of the requested documents below for your records.

Printable Checklist (PDF) – Please attach to your packet

step 1 - Advanced Education Application

Advanced Ed. Application

Read and complete the entire two-page Advanced Education Application (PDF). The application must have requested courses filled in and approved by your high school principal or authorized designee. It also requires signatures from you (both pages), your parent/guardian, and your high school principal/authorized designee.

Requested courses will not be changed or amended by an SCC counselor. You can list up to four course options; however, you may only enroll in two courses during a given semester.

step 2 - College Application

College Application

Complete the SCC application online indicating you are an Advanced Education student (not a new student, and not a continuing student even if you have taken classes at SCC before).

step 3 - Orientation

Complete the Los Rios online orientation. Print out the completion page at the end of the orientation, or the Certificate of Completion that is sent to your Los Rios Gmail account within 24 hours.

If you have already completed a course at SCC, you do not need to include this Certification in your packet.

step 4 - Assessment

Complete the SCC assessment. A copy of your Los Rios assessment scores is required when requesting any SCC course that has an English or Math pre-requisite. Submit these results with your Advanced Education packet only if you are requesting to take a class with a math or English prerequisite.

Note: A student may only retest one time, district-wide, after a 30-calendar-day waiting period.

For more information regarding all assessment tests and the new standard assessment practices in the Los Rios district, visit Assessment.

step 5 - Statement & Transcript

Statement & Transcript

  1. Type a personal statement explaining how you meet the criteria for Advanced Education.
  2. Request and attach a copy of your high school transcript/class schedule

Note: If your age is not reflected on your transcript, please provide documentation of age. Please provide a copy of the private or home school affidavit if your school is not listed in the California School Directory.

If you have already taken college courses, you will also need to provide a copy of your unofficial college transcript.

step 6 - Submit Your Packet

Submit Your Packet

Submit your Advanced Education packet by one of the packet submission deadlines by email or in person:

After submitting your packet you will receive one of the following confirmation emails:

  • Approval, with a link to register for a pick-up session
  • Missing a Document, with instructions on resubmitting your packet
  • Denial, with further instructions

step 7 - Counseling

Once you receive an approval confirmation email, you will be invited to register for a Pickup Session with a Counselor.  At this session, a counselor will provide you information regarding next steps, as well as your advanced education packet which is required to enroll in classes.

step 8 - Enroll & Pay Fees

Enroll & Pay Fees

Enroll in your classes and pay your fees. Advanced Education students must enroll in person at the Admission and Records counter in the Student Services Building STS 103 with your advanced education application and photo I.D.

Note: Students are responsible for being aware of–and adhering to–all policies, procedures, and deadlines (including Add/Drop deadlines). Pay UTP (transit pass) and student representation fees (enrollment fees are waived).  International student fees will apply.  For more information, contact Admissions and Records.

Note: If you have already completed steps 2-4, you do not need to complete them a second time.  You will need to submit documentation of completing steps 3 and 4 in your Advanced Education Packet.

For further information please contact your SCC Advanced Education Counseling Team via email at AdvancedEd@scc.losrios.edu. We will reply to your inquiry within 3 business days.
