High School Students: Advanced Education

All high school students wishing to enroll in classes at Sacramento City College Main Campus location must complete the Advanced Education steps (below). Contact the Davis Center or West Sacramento Center for more information on their advanced education process.

There will be no individual counseling appointments at the SCC Main Campus for any Advanced Education students; no exceptions will be made.

Summer 2018

Sacramento City College counseling department will begin accepting applications April 9th, 2018.

Deadline for 1st 8-week classes: June 6, 2018

Deadline for 2nd 8-week classes: June 20, 2018

Fall 2018

Sacramento City College counseling department will begin accepting applications April 9th, 2018.

Deadline for full-term classes: August 20, 2018

Deadline for 2nd 8 weeks: October 12, 2018

Advanced Education Steps

The following steps are required to complete the Advanced Education Process. All steps must be completed before the semester deadlines.

Please include all of the following required items in your Advanced Education Application Packet. We strongly encourage you to make copies of all of the requested documents for your records.

step 1 - Advanced Education Application

Advanced Ed. Application

Read and complete the entire 2-page Advanced Education Application (PDF). The application must have requested courses filled in and approved by your high school counselor or principal/authorized designee. It requires signatures from you, your parent/guardian, and high school principal/authorized designee.

Requested courses will not be changed or amended by an SCC counselor. You can list up to four course options; however, you may only enroll in two courses per semester.

step 2 - College Application

College Application

Complete the SCC application online indicating you are an Advanced Education student (not a new student, and not a continuing student even if you have taken classes at SCC before). AB540 students must also submit AB540 California Nonresident Tuition Exemption Request.

step 3 - Orientation

Orientation

Complete the Los Rios online orientation. You may begin the online orientation the day after you receive your Los Rios Student ID number.

step 4 - Assessment

Assessment

Please visit the Assessment Center to finalize your math Placement and/or to receive your English placement. Finalize your placements before meeting with your high school counselor in order for them to better advise you. Complete the math or English placement ONLY if you are requesting to take classes with a math or English prerequisite. You will need to submit these results with your Advanced Education Packet.

step 5 - Statement & Transcript

  1. TYPE  a personal statement explaining how you meet the criteria for Advanced Education and why you want to participate in Advanced Education.
  2. Request and attach a copy of your high school transcript/class schedule

Note: If your age is not reflected on your transcript, please provide documentation of age. Please provide a copy of the private or home school affidavit if your school is not listed in the California School Directory.

If you have already taken college courses, you will also need to provide a copy of your unofficial college transcript. Your transcript is accessible through your eServices.

step 6 - Submit Your Packet

Submit your completed Advanced Education packet by one of the deadlines by email or in person:

After submitting your packet you will receive one of the following confirmation emails within 5 business days:

  • Approval, with instructions.
  • Missing a Document, with instructions.
  • Denial, with instructions.

step 7 - Counseling

Counseling Workshop

Once you receive an approval confirmation email, you will be invited to register for a group workshop with a counselor.  At this workshop, an SCC counselor will provide information regarding next steps, and your advanced education packet which is required to enroll in classes.

Continuing Advanced Education students do not need to attend a counseling workshop.

step 8 - Enroll & Pay Fees

Advanced Education students must enroll in person, on or after their enrollment date and time, at the  Admission and Records counter in the Student Services Building STS 103. You must have your advanced education packet and photo I.D.

Note: Students are responsible for being aware of–and MUST adhere to–all policies, procedures, and deadlines (including Add/Drop deadlines). Pay UTP (transit pass) and student representation fees (enrollment fees are waived).
