Graduating from SCC
We are so proud of our Panther alumni–and we want you to be among them! Once you have identified a major, or a degree or certificate path, meet regularly with a counselor to make sure you are on track for completing your desired degree or certificate program.
Students planning to graduate with a degree or certificate must meet the minimum requirements.
All summer and fall degree recipients and spring degree candidates will be invited to participate in an annual graduation ceremony, known as commencement, held at the end of each spring semester in May.
Degree Programs
Sacramento City College offers two types of Associate Degrees:
The Associate degree may be obtained by:
- the completion of all required courses for a major (18 units or more) with grades of "C" or better in each course
- the fulfillment of general education requirements
- the satisfaction of competencies, and
- completion of sufficient electives to meet a minimum total of 60-degree applicable units with a grade point average of 2.0 ("C" average).
A minimum of 12 degree applicable units must be completed in residence at Sacramento City College.
The Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) is obtained by completing the following requirements (as stated in SB 1440 law):
- completion of a minimum of 60-semester units or 90-quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including both of the following:
- The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC-CSU option) or the California State University (CSU) General Education Breadth Requirements
- A minimum of 18-semester units or 27-quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district
- obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0
- ADTs also require that students must earn a "C" or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis
A minimum of 12 transferable units must be completed in residence at Sacramento City College.

Certificates
There are two types of certificates:
The Certificate of Achievement certifies that a student has completed all required courses and is prepared to enter the career designated on their certificate. Certificate of Achievement programs are developed to provide vocational training for students who are not necessarily seeking a college degree.
- Certificates of Achievement require a grade of "C" or better in each course with a minimum of 12 units completed at Sacramento City College.
Certificates of Recognition are intended to certify that students are prepared to meet specific occupational needs, upgrade skills, or advance in an existing career.
- Certificates of Recognition require fewer than 16 units with a grade of "C" or better in each course.
- At least 12 units toward the degree must be completed at Sacramento City College. If the certificate requires fewer than 12 units, then students must take the number of units required by the certificate at Sacramento City College. As long as the units a student takes are degree- or transfer-applicable, they do not necessarily have to be the specific units required for the certificate.
- Certificates of Recognition are not noted on transcripts.
