PREREQUISITES FOR HISTORY COURSES AT S.C.C.
Before students can enroll in any History course at Sacramento City College, they must first pass either ENGWR 101 (formerly ENGWR 100) with a grade of “C” or better, or ESLW 320 with a grade of “C” or better. If a student has taken (and passed with a grade of “C” or better) a course at a college outside the Los Rios District that is the equivalent of ENGWR 101 or ESLW 320, the student must have this equivalency verified by the Dean of the Language and Literature Division (Rodda South 226) or by a counselor. Counselors are available on the Main Campus (RN 147) as well as at the Davis Outreach and West Sacramento Outreach Centers. In order for the college to verify the equivalency, students will need to bring a copy of their transcript and a copy of the course description. Students will need to show evidence to the instructor that they have either satisfied the prerequisite requirement—or that they have completed the equivalent at another institution—during the first week of class.
Students may also satisfy the prerequisite through the assessment process. If the assessment results place a student into ENGWR 300 or ESLW 340, then the student satisfies the prerequisite. Placement into ENGWR 101 or ESLW 320 for the current semester is not sufficient. Students who satisfy the prerequisite through the assessment process will need to show their assessment results to the instructor sometime during the first week of class. Assessment tests are administered in STS 121. View the testing schedule and hours of operation for the Assessment Center. The phone number for the Assessment Center is 916-558-2541.
Students who have not taken the prerequisite, or who have not satisfied the prerequisite through the assessment process, will be dropped from their History classes.
