The office of Student Equity and Success is excited to announce the launch of SCC’s ally development training with a talk and workshop by Tim Wise. Tim will discuss the causes, both formal and informal, of institutional racial inequalities. Tim will also host an interactive breakout session in which participants will be invited to examine institutional practices and procedures which often inadvertently perpetuate unequal opportunity and treatment. Attendees will develop strategies for shifting the institutional culture at SCC in the direction of greater parity. Space is extremely limited for the workshop.
Wise is among the most prominent anti-racist writers and educators in the United States. He is the author of seven books including his latest, Under the Affluence: Shaming the Poor, Praising the Rich and Sacrificing the Future of America and his highly acclaimed memoir, White Like Me: Reflections on Race from a Privileged Son.
