How to Meet with a Counselor

First Time in College

BEFORE you can meet with a counselor, you MUST first complete the following steps:

1)     Apply for Admission to Sacramento City College

2)     Set up your Gmail Account

3)     Take the Los Rios Online Orientation

4)     Take the Sacramento City College Assessment (Math and English or ESL)

5)     Attend a New Student Counselor Workshop.
This IS where you will meet with a counselor and plan your first semester of classes.


Current Students – To see a Counselor, appointments are required.   

Same-Day Appointments

There are a limited number of sessions each day that are scheduled until full.

  • The focus is on BRIEF matters:  Plan courses for ONE semester only (known as an abbreviated iSEP), basic questions about general education and classes, advanced education.
  • Scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.  You can call or come in on the same-day, to schedule.
  • Counselor availability may fill up early in the day.  Late arrival may be asked to return another day.  
  • Students must be present when their name is called.
  • If not present when your name is called, you will be removed from the list.

Appointments Scheduled in Advance

Some matters just take more time.  Appointments scheduled in advance are required for the following:

During the regular academic year and during non-peak enrollment times, appointments are scheduled up to two-weeks in advance.  Please plan ahead.  To schedule an appointment in advance, please call 916-558-2204.  Appointments fill up fast so please call early for the best choice of days and times.

In an ONLINE course?  Online Counseling ONLY for ONLINE Students -Meet with a counselor from the comfort of your computer.  Note: You will need a desktop or laptop computer to participate in online counseling. We are not set up for smart phones or tablets at this time.

  • Please visit the CCCConfer website and run the software installation wizard.

  • At this time, you cannot schedule a meeting. Please get copies of those transcripts before you schedule the appointment.
