“The one thing that motivates me is my past, my underprivileged childhood.  I want more, I want better for my life.”

This is Iris:

She is transferring to San Diego State for Fall 2014.

Iris entered Sacramento City College during the Fall 2010 semester and graduated May 21, 2014.

Participated in:

  1. EOP&S Program
  2. Fostering Futures Meetings
  3. The AB12 program for extended foster care

At San Diego State, Iris will be involved with Guardian Scholars (for former foster youth) and will have housing provided by the THP-Plus Program.

We are so proud of Iris, she made her dreams into reality!

“Not having anything as a child, teen and young adult I want more for myself. I deserve more than where I come from. Also proving people wrong, the ones that said I would never amount to anything. Positive thoughts get positive results.”

This is Sammy:

He is currently attending Sacramento City College and has plans to transfer to CSU, Sacramento in Fall 2015. His major is Sociology and has plans to receive his masters in counseling.

After struggling on his own for a little while Sammy decided to “plug in.” He began attending Fostering Futures meetings regularly and talking more with staff.  He then applied to the EOPS Program and was accepted.

Once Sammy “plugged in,” he allowed himself to be mentored by several staff.  As a result Sammy has:

  • Become the lead student assistant in EOP&S
  • Assists with the EOP&S Outreach Program
  • Assists with outreach to foster Youth Community
  • Helps with on campus classroom presentations
  • Assists with facilitating the Fostering Futures meetings
  • Was the recipient of the 2013-2014 William Stillwell Memorial Scholarship.

He has definitely become an advocate for foster youth. When not in class he is usually working in the EOPS Office and would love to answer any questions you have.

Sammy, we are so proud of the struggles you have overcome and continue to face as you continue the push to move forward.
