The Department of Education (DOE) defines as an HSI any institution of higher learning with an enrollment of undergraduate full-time equivalent students that is at least 25% Hispanic. SCC has, in fact, more than 29% student population who identify themselves as Hispanic, Latina/o/x, Mexican, Mexican-American, or Chicana/o/x. This student population representing the single highest racial/ethnic group at the college.
SCC met the program-specific eligibility requirements as a Title V Developing Hispanic Serving Institution, and was formally designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) on Tuesday, September 15, 2015. We are the first college to reach this designation in the Los Rios Community College District and as such we were recently-awarded grants that enables the college to expand and enhance academic offerings, program quality, and institutional stability.
We are excited to launch 2 new SCC HSI grant funded programs projects listed below. Learn more by following each link.
