Beacon Tutoring Program

A Beacon tutor is a trained peer tutor who works with an instructor for a specific class. The tutor then facilitates group study sessions with students in this class and focuses on the content areas covered by the instructor.

Program Highlights

  • based on the supplemental instruction model (SI)
  • bi-weekly group tutoring sessions
  • instructor chooses the student tutor
  • the tutor has successfully completed (A or B grade) the class or a higher level class
  • provides a consistent group tutoring schedule
  • provides frequent interaction and dialogue between instructor and tutor
  • group tutor training course must be completed during the tutor’s first semester (LTAT 311)
