The City Connect First-Year Experience program encourages academic achievement, social integration, and personal success with the assistance of a strong support network of peers, staff, and faculty.
The City Connect program is only open to students that complete the City 101 Summer Bridge program.
Each City Connect student will be placed in a Panther Pack, consisting of a Success Coach, a Peer Mentor, and other City Connect students like yourself.
You will learn how to:
- Navigate college
- Identify where to seek help
- Build a network of peers
- Achieve your education goal
City Connect FYE is committed to assisting students, to gain and maintain motivation and to complete set goals.
Throughout your first year in college, the City Connect FYE program will be offering you special Connection workshops that will help you prepare for your future.
Fall semester workshops will focus on transitioning into college:
- Managing your time
- Meet successful SCC alumni
- How to Manage Stress
Our spring semester workshops will concentrate on majors and possible career choices:
- Identify your skills and learn how to interview
- Learn what employers look for in an interview
- Learn how to network
- Research career options
City Connect students participate in additional academic enrichment, career, and social activities throughout the year as well.
No one succeeds alone. This is why you will be placed in a Panther Pack. This is why you will have both an assigned Success Coach and a Peer Mentor so that you will receive individual support for academic success.
The steps you will be required to take in order to succeed as a City Connect student are as follows:
- Meet twice per month with your Peer Mentor
- Meet once per month with your Success Coach
- Attend a faculty office hour at least once each semester
- Attend one Connection workshop per month
The philosophy of City Connect is to empower and support students in their goal of obtaining higher education.
