West Sacramento Center

Art Pimentel, a former city councilman and mayor of Woodland, is the new dean of Sacramento City College’s West Sacramento Center.

Pimentel, who begins his new post on July 1, brings more than 14 years of experience in higher education and community-based organizations. He was most recently the interim executive director of Yuba College’s Clear Lake Campus.

During his time with the Yuba Community College District, Pimentel held positions as the director of TRIO programs and the public information officer at Woodland Community College. He has also served on the Woodland City Council as a councilman and mayor.

Pimentel earned his B.A. in Social Sciences and M.A. in Educational Leadership from Sacramento State University.

He said he is excited to serve SCC’s students and the community of West Sacramento.

“We have a wonderful educational facility and the community is taking full advantage of the services and courses we offer,” Pimentel said. “In the coming years, I hope to continue to expand the course offerings and programs to maximize our space and plan for Phase 2 of construction.  Also, I want to strengthen our community partnerships with our local educational institutions, business, and community leaders to develop programs and services that mirror the needs of the community.”

SCC President Kathryn Jeffery is pleased to welcome Pimentel as the West Sacramento Center dean.

“Mr. Pimentel’s experiences, both in education and public service, will enable him to connect with community partners, build relationships with our educational colleagues in the West Sacramento community, and further position the SCC West Sacramento Center to be a more integral higher education presence and partner,” Jeffery said. “He is known for his commitment and dedication to higher education, serving his community, and passion for helping students.”

Jeffery expresses gratitude to Don Palm, who held his position as SCC’s Davis Center dean, while also providing leadership as interim dean for the West Sacramento Center throughout the 2013-14 academic year.

Sacramento City College’s West Sacramento Center has been honored with West Sacramento’s Civic Leadership Award for Prosperity.

Interim Dean Don Palm accepted the award at the annual West Sacramento Chamber of Commerce “State of the City” event on May 21, where Mayor Christopher Cabaldon provided an overview of the city’s accomplishments, challenges and opportunities ahead.

SCC President Kathryn Jeffery said being selected for the award speaks volumes about the city’s perspective on the relationship between higher education and prosperity.

“Receiving the Civic Leadership Award for Prosperity from Mayor Christopher Cabaldon is a strong acknowledgement of the value the city of West Sacramento places on having a higher education presence and partner in the city center,” said Dr. Jeffery.

“We’re proud of the accomplishments of these West Sacramento leaders,” said Chamber CEO Denice Seals. “They are a large part in the continued growth and prosperity of the West Sacramento community. Congratulations to them for all of their hard work and dedication.”
