No, tutoring is not considered cheating. It is meant to help and guide you when necessary.

If you think you are going to be late, please call (916) 375 – 5514 to let us know. If you are 15 minutes late and there is a student waiting for help, we will give your appointment to them.

Walk-in appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis.

You should bring:

  • your assignment sheet
  • a hard copy of your current draft, earlier drafts, and relevant notes
  • sources used in your essay
  • your thoughts about how to improve your essay/assignment

Not showing up to an appointment will result in it being marked as a no show. Excessive no shows (2 and more) will result in a verbal warning. Further no shows may prevent you from making further appointments at the Writing Center, at the discretion of Writing Center staff.

By scheduling an appointment at the Writing Center, you reserve a time slot such that another student may not schedule an appointment during that time. Therefore, your attention and participation in the tutoring session is important. Please use technology only to the benefit of your session. The tutor is here to help you. Communication and collaboration are necessary for a productive tutoring session.

If you have DSPS, we can off an extra 2 appointments on top of the allotted three per week, one per day. If you are in need of more tutoring sessions than this, we encourage you to reach out to the main campus Writing Center.
