Leadership Skills Development

Community Leadership Development 300

Prerequisite: None
Acceptable for Credit: CSU

This course provides an introduction to leadership and examines leadership theory and organizational behavior. It emphasizes leadership procedures and functions with regard to the community college experience. All students interested in learning and experiencing leadership, especially those comfortable with both oral and written communication, are encouraged to enroll.

This course is an introduction to the dynamics of working groups. It provides theory and practice in leadership, parliamentary procedure, committee techniques, and organizational behavior. The emphasis is on governmental procedures and functions as these apply to student leadership. Students can anticipate participation in the student association and related committees.

Future Curriculum

Additional leadership curriculum is currently being designed to meet the diverse needs of the students, campus, and community. Eventually, we hope to offer an academic certificate in leadership. Besides courses, Student Leadership and Development offers and provides workshops, seminars, retreats, and other training opportunities in leadership and related areas. Bulletin Board Posting(s)

Student Leadership & Development

Student Leadership and Development will post appropriate school-related materials on eight (8) designated bulletin boards throughout the campus - no off-campus postings. All other posted materials are approved through the Public Information Office, sccpio@scc.losrios.edu (located in Rodda Hall North RHN277). Postings will remain on the boards for two weeks or until the event is complete, whichever occurs first. All fliers not stamped by the appropriate department mentioned above will be removed from the boards. Below is a listing:

  • Stairway leading up to South Gym 226
  • 1st floor Hallway of South Gym
  • (2) Inside Student Center
  • (2) Outside of City Cafe, next to Cafe tables
  • (2) Outside walkway in-between Rodda North & Rodda South
Student Associated Council

SAC bulletin boards are located throughout campus and are easily identified with the burgundy and gold checkerboard design.

  1. The Secretary of Public Relations approves postings for SAC boards.
  2. Student Leadership & Development may also approve postings for these boars, as indicated with the SLD stamp.
  3. Only campus-based items are to be posted; no off-campus postings.
  4. Once approved, people can post themselves. Caution should be taken, however, as not to disrupt classes.
  5. There are 20 SAC boards located around campus - all painted checkerboard burgundy and gold.

Co-Curricular Support

Student Leadership and Development will work to support co-curricular activities and events. Students and instructors are encouraged to present ideas for consideration. For more information, contact Student Leadership and Development.

Housing Information Board

Housing information is compiled into a list for distribution in South Gym 226.

Fill out a rental ad form and return it to Student Leadership and Development to have it posted for a period of one month in the rental listing binder. The form is available in South Gym 226 or online. Listing information may change at the property owners discretion: PDF download Rental Ad Form (PDF)

Voter Registration

Student Leadership and Development can help you register to vote in local, state and national elections. You need to register to vote if you have moved your residence, changed your name or party affiliation, or are voting for the first time.

Workroom and Supplies

Students and staff can access various supplies in our workroom for use in making banners and other school-related items.

Transcript Notation Request

If you would like your Student Associated Council involvement noted on your official SCC transcript, then you must submit this form no later than 30 days prior to the end of the semester.

All requirements must be met in order to have “Recognized Student Leader” noted on your transcript. If you have questions or need additional information, please contact the Advisor directly.  Thank you.
